Improved Agro-Industrial Policy to Harness AfCFTA Potential
The AUC, AUDA-NEPAD and IDEP have launched an online course on Industrial Policy that will be undertaken from 28 September - 30 October 2020.
The aim of the course is to contribute to strengthening capacity at the national and regional levels for effective design and implementation of policy catalysing accelerated growth in the continent’s agro-industry in support of the AfCFTA ambitions for inclusive, sustained economic development.
The course will address the policy concerns as expressed by most African governments, which include, among others, improving agricultural output and productivity, nurturing the linkages between agriculture and the industry sector in particular, without leaving behind other economic sectors, increasing national food security, combating poverty, expanding employment, promoting environmental sustainability, and enhancing sustainable rural livelihoods, including gender equality.
AUC, AUDA-NEPAD and IDEP strongly encourage and support the participation of suitably qualified female officials in its capacity development and training programmes.

Communication in Africa in the time of COVID-19: Impact of the pandemic on the media industry-Southern Africa
The COVID-19 pandemic has, without a doubt, impacted the world of communications and the media landscape. One of the major aims of media and communication practitioners is therefore to share with their communities' accurate and helpful information. The aim of the AUDA-NEPAD webinar series is to support the creation of more spaces for African’s own narratives to be shared widely by African media and communication stakeholders, for more balanced coverage of the Continent.

2020 Africa Kaizen Annual Conference
“The Role of Kaizen in Accelerating Industrialization in Africa Under the Challenges of COVID-19 and Beyond”
The private sector contributes significantly to the development of Africa's economy and thus it is a vital component to its development. Hence, private sector development is one of the key factors that will lead to Africa’s industrialization and the creation of employment and decent work. Since the late 2000s, JICA has promoted adoption of “Kaizen”, a comprehensive approach that makes use of broad technologies to pursue quality, productivity, and managerial capabilities. In this regard, AUDA-NEPAD and JICA will host a virtual Africa Kaizen Annual Conference (AKAC) 2020. AKAC serves as a platform for stakeholders to expand their networks, share knowledge, and deepen their understanding of Kaizen activities.
Given the shock and disruptions brought about by COVID-19, it can no longer be business as usual. The disruptions warrant reimagining the way the private sector and indeed government conduct business and, adopts to similar future shocks.
Objectives of Africa Kaizen Annual Conference
AKAC aims to promote and upgrade Kaizen activities in Africa to facilitate its development objectives and the implementation of TICAD and Agenda 2063 objectives. AKAC specific objectives are;
a mutual learning process on the know-how and practical experiences of Kaizen activities in Africa and around the world;
strengthening and expanding the network among Kaizen practitioners, promoters and researchers at the global level, and
comprehending and conveying key messages from Kaizen or quality and productivity improvement promoters and practitioners to African heads of states and policy makers.

China’s Belt And Road & The African Free Trade Agreement Infrastructure Under The New Normal
The e-symposium is aimed at discussing BRI strategies to accelerate the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) infrastructure development.
Invited delegates from both the Chinese and African Think Tanks and regional organisations will address key issues such as whether the planned BRI projects under the new normal will be able to come to fruition in the current economic climate.
They will also interrogate whether Chinese development banks will be able to continue financing BRI infrastructure, particularly if long term profitability of some projects may have been compromised.
The dialogue is expected to bring out best practices that the African Union Development Agency-NEPAD (AUDA-NEPAD) should consider in implementing the AfCFTA in partnership with the BRI.
The event is organised by the Human Sciences Research Council’s (HSRC) BRICS Research Centre in collaboration with the Academy of Contemporary China and World Studies and AUDA-NEPAD.
Speakers include HE Minister Counsellor LI Nan (Charge d'Affares ad Interim, Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in South Africa); HE Yu Yunquan (President of the Academy of Contemporary China and World Studies); HE Robert Lisinge, Chief (Energy, Infrastructure and Services Section, United Nations Economic Commission for Africa, Addis Ababa); Dr Cobus Van Staden (Senior China-Africa Relations Researcher, South Africa Institute of International Affairs); Liu Naiya (Director of Division for Social and Cultural Studies, The China-Africa Institute); and Dr Vuyo Mjimba (Chief Research Specialist, Human Science Research Council).
