The African continent's youth is facing a host of challenges, such as limited employment opportunities. This is one of the factors that led to the creation of the Skills Initiative for Africa (SIFA). SIFA works with the private sector to promote occupational opportunities for young African workers. Through the Africa Talks Jobs dialogue, SIFA sought to gather key players in the African economy to discuss the continent's skills agenda.

As part of its efforts to address the issue of African youth unemployment, SIFA has commissioned this discussion paper which aims to discuss key issues related to addressing African youth unemployment at the national level. This work will expand on the topic of putting youth job creation at the centre. It is an important element in addressing the needs of youth in Africa.

The need to create jobs and opportunities for African youth is evidenced by the large number of young people who will need these in the future. The rapid growth of the African youth population presents a need for urgent and effective responses. The negative impact of the global economy on Africa's growth has become more pronounced. This has led to a spike in the number of job seekers in all African countries. This work is focused on developing a strategy to accelerate the creation of youth jobs at scale.
