CEO’s high-level development cooperation meetings in Germany
On November 3rd 2014, the CEO of the NEPAD Agency Dr. Ibrahim Assane Mayaki undertook a working visit to Germany with a delegation of senior officials of the Agency. Dr. Mayaki was received by Dr. Christoph Beier, Vice Chairperson of the Management Board of Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH. The discussions held with the senior management of GIZ at their Headquarters in Eschborn, centered on strengthening the ongoing cooperation between the two organizations in the areas of infrastructure development and agriculture; specifically the progress on the implementation of the Programme for Infrastructure Development in Africa (PIDA) and the Collaborative Africa Agriculture Development Programme (CAADP). Dr. Mayaki also gave a lecture at the GIZ Headquarters themed “2014 – Year of Agriculture and Food Security in Africa: Lessons learnt and perspectives of the continent for the next decade”
Dr. Mayaki and his delegation travelled to Bonn to hold strategic discussions with the German Ministry for Development Cooperation (BMZ). At BMZ, Dr. Mayaki and his delegation were received by Mr. Christoph Rau, Head of Africa Division. The meeting between the NEPAD Agency and BMZ was to prepare for the upcoming bilateral negotiations between Germany and AU/NEPAD. The on-going cooperation between Germany and NEPAD Agency was reviewed and potential new areas of programmatic cooperation was explored, particularly Germany’s support to the newly created PIDA Technical Advisory Facility for Project Preparation and the NEPAD Agency Rural Futures Programme.

On November 4th 2014, Dr. Mayaki held close door discussions with State Secretary Mr. Hans-Joachim Fuchtel and German Chancellor’s Personal Advisor for Africa Mr. Guenter Nooke. These discussions centred on the role of Germany in the post MDGs/SDGs and the thematic support areas on Africa’s developmental issues that Germany may place on the Agenda of the G-7. Germany will be taking up the G7 Presidency in January 2015.

On the last day of his working visit Dr. Mayaki paid a courtesy call on the former president of the Federal Republic of Germany, Dr. Horst Köhler. Former President Horst Köhler served on the UN Secretary-General’s High-Level Panel on the Post-2015 Development Agenda.

Dr Mayaki also participate at the African Economic Outlook (AEO) 2015 Experts Meeting, on the 6th November 2014 at the OECD Headquarters in Paris. Whilst at the OECD he held a high level meeting with Mr Laurent Bossard, Director Sahel and West Africa Club Secretariat (SWAC/OECD), to reinforce the partnership between the two institutions.
