Project for socioeconomic development of women in the communities of the Benguela municipality

The project was undertaken by the Promotion of the Angolan Women at the Catholic Church (PROMAICA) which ran from July 2008 to September 2010, assisted in promoting socio-economic development among rural communities from the Benguela municipality of Angola. The project activities contributed towards the economic emancipation of 154 women through microfinancing.

Key Results

PROMAICA provided employment to 148 women, thereby raising their living standards and that of their dependents. The project implemented a micro finance initiative which directly benefitted 32 disenfranchised local women. A key output of the micro finance initiative women tools to develop and grow their business and help their dependants in the communities as well as the training and education of the beneficiaries themselves. Furthermore, the extra income generated by economic activities associated with the project was invested in priority areas such as education, healthcare and created savings to attend to future needs.
