Key Results
Uganda has been connected to other EAC countries through the regional optic fibre project. The Country is also a member of the Task team for the Smart Africa Initiate. US$600,000 has already been mobilised for the initiative through contributions
feasibility study and engineering designs have been completed using NEPAD Infrastructure Project Preparation Facility (IPPF) for the Kampala-Juba-Addis Ababa and Djibouti road. An MOU has also been signed among the participating countries including Sudan
The Country is also involved in the intermodal project which integrates river, road and rail transport in the Nile basin. The project was endorsed by Ministers of Transport, ICT and Energy in September 2013 and is expected to benefit nine countries. A prefeasibility study was conducted in 2013, which included an assessment of the phases 1 and 2 projects for the segment from Lake Albert in to Lake Victoria and to Khartoum in Sudan
The Country is involved in the LAPSSET Corridor Programme which includes the construction of Manda Bay Port in Lamu, Standard railway to Juba in South Sudan and to Addisababa Ethiopia, Road network, Oil pipelines (Southern Sudan to Ethiopia), Oil Refinery at Bargoni Kenya, three airports and three resort cities. The project was endorsed as a PICI project by the HSGOC at the AU Summit in Johannesburg, South Africa in June 2015. The programme responds to the Eastern Africa challenge in developing sufficient port capacity to handle future demand from both domestic sources and landlocked countries
