African Science Technology and Innovation Indicators (ASTII) 3 programme is progressing beyond data collection from Research and Development (R&D) and Innovation Surveys to developing models for assessing R&D and innovation performance. This was disclosed at a joint ASTII 3 Annual Review Meeting between NEPAD Agency and Swedish International Development Corporation (Sida) held from 20 – 21 April 2017 at NEPAD Agency Head Office. The review meeting was co-chaired by the Sida representative, Dr Claes Kjellstrom and Prof. Aggrey Ambali who represented the NEPAD Agency.

During the review meeting it was also revealed that the 3rd African Innovation Outlook (AIO3) report will be published in October 2017. NEPAD Agency will take the leading role and work with collaborating partners to produce this report.

The January – December 2016 ASTII 3 Technical Progress Report was approved during the meeting and commended by Sida for its informative coverage. Dr Claes Kjellstrom, on behalf of SIDA, expressed gratitude for the fruitful and informative review meeting and the important partnership with NEPAD Agency for close to a decade.
